Dear Parents and Carers,

As we reach the end of another incredibly busy and productive term, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the fantastic progress our Year 9 students have made this academic year, and to look forward to the vital term ahead.

This year has been filled with brilliant achievements, and I am incredibly proud of how well the school year has gone so far. Our students have shown resilience, curiosity, and a growing maturity as they navigate their final year of Key Stage 3.

A particular highlight for our school community is being recognised with an FFT Attendance Award. This is a massive achievement and a testament to the dedication of our students, as well as your continued support at home. Consistent attendance is the single biggest factor in student success, and celebrating this award shows just how committed Year 9 is to their education.

Furthermore, we have seen a noticeable and very welcome improvement in overall behaviour across the year group. The vast majority of our students are arriving with a positive attitude, showing respect to staff and peers, and creating a focused learning environment in their classrooms.

While we have so much to celebrate, we are always striving for excellence. To ensure every student reaches their full potential, we have identified three specific areas for development as we head into the summer term:

  • Lateness to lessons: Arriving even a few minutes late disrupts the flow of learning for the entire class and means students miss crucial starter activities.
  • Missing equipment: Being prepared is essential. Students must arrive with the correct pens, pencils, rulers, and books every day.
  • Chewing gum in class: This remains a distraction and a standard we expect all students to uphold by leaving gum at home.

These may seem like minor infractions, but they are small changes that have a huge impact. By tightening up on punctuality, preparation, and focus, we reclaim valuable learning time and build the professional habits needed for the future. We greatly appreciate your support in reinforcing these expectations at home.

When we return after the break, we enter the final term of Year 9. This term is a critical bridge, and our entire focus will be on the transition into Key Stage 4.

To ensure our students hit the ground running in Year 10, next term will place a heavy emphasis on:

  1. Effective Revision Tactics: Students will be taught how to study independently, retain information, and prepare for higher-level assessments.
  2. Work Experience Placements: This is an exciting opportunity for our students to gain a taste of the working world, build independence, and understand how their current studies link to future career paths at the end of y10.

Thank you for your unwavering partnership and support throughout this year. I hope you and your families have a restful and enjoyable half-term break, and we look forward to welcoming the students back for their most important term yet.

Yours sincerely,

Mr Sutcliffe
