Dear Parents and Carers,
As we reach the end of the term, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the many positives we have seen across Year 8. Students have continued to grow in confidence, maturity and independence, and we are incredibly proud of their achievements. This term, Year 8 have collectively earned over 17,000 achievement points, with many students receiving Platinum and Golden Tickets in recognition of their exceptional effort, behaviour and contribution to school life. These successes have been celebrated during our Fantastic Friday events, which continue to highlight the positive culture developing within the year group.
We are also delighted to share that the school has won the FFT National Attendance Award. FFT (Fischer Family Trust) is a national organisation that analyses school performance data, and this award recognises schools whose attendance is significantly above national expectations. This is a fantastic achievement and reflects the commitment of our students, families and staff. However, excellent attendance must remain a priority. Strong attendance is directly linked to academic progress, emotional development and long‑term outcomes, and even small amounts of missed learning can accumulate over time, particularly as students move closer to GCSE study. We appreciate your continued commitment to ensuring your child attends school every day, on time, unless they are unwell.
Behaviour continues to be a key focus. We value our ongoing partnership with families and working together helps maintain a calm, focused learning environment. It is important that students understand the consequences of poor behaviour. This means taking responsibility for poor choices, resolving conflicts in a mature manner, and avoiding any disruption to others, so that all students have the right to learn in a setting where they can develop confidence, strengthen their social skills and make strong academic progress. I would also like to highlight that, as teachers, we are required to follow the rules and policies set out by our school, employer and Trust. All relevant information and policies can be found on our school website. This approach is vital to ensure consistency, clarity and fairness, removing any grey areas and ensuring that students experience consistent outcomes.
Please note that squishies/scrunchems are not to be brought into school. Where appropriate, quiet and discreet fidget aids may be used only if agreed and listed on a student’s School Passport, (based on evidenced need) and they should remain discreetly in pockets so that they do not distract from learning.
Looking ahead, next term is an important one for Year 8 as they take their next steps towards Key Stage 4. We are very much looking forward to the Year 8 Camp, and an information evening for families will be held on Tuesday 17th June (5–6pm) where we will share key details and answer any questions. Families will also receive school reports based on the recent mock exams, including Attitude to Learning scores, which will help identify strengths and areas for development as students prepare for Year 9. In addition, we will be sharing the GCSE options that pupils have selected, marking an important milestone as they begin to shape their future pathways. We are also looking forward to upcoming events, including the Summer Festival on Thursday 18th June 2026 and Sports Day in the penultimate week, which will take place before we break up for summer on Friday 17th July 2026.
As we approach the end of the year, we would like to thank you for your continued support and communication. Year 8 are a fantastic group, and it is a privilege to see their progress and confidence grow. If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to get in contact.
Yours sincerely,
Mr Graham
Y8 Achievement Leader
