This week around 40 students have spent 5 days in Belgium and France to visit the First World War Battlefields. The students have visited many places including:
Vimy Rodge
Tyne Cot British Cemetery
Wellington Quarry
Newfoundland Park
Lnagemark Cemetery
Menin Gate and Last Post ceremony
Lochnagar Crater
Thiepval Memorial
Included in the visit was a day to Ypres battlefield and a day on the Somme battlefield, sites of some of the worst fighting in the whole of the war. Students watched the Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate, and saw the Canadian Memorial at Vimy Ridge. The students also had a chance to study the Great War poets and practice their French.
The trip has been an excellent experience for our students and they can see first hand history which will help them with their GCSE History.
