Dear Parent/Carer

Year 11 students despite the challenges they have faced over the past couple of years have continued to have a good attitude to learning and have made good progress at Frederick Gent School, participating enthusiastically in all aspects of school life where possible. In order for them to achieve the best possible grades, it is crucial that your child is fully supported in their classwork, home learning and revision. The support that you can offer your child at home will play a key role in your child’s achievement and I am confident that, with continued communication between the school and parents/carers and their continued application, they will continue to make good progress towards and beyond their expected levels in their GCSE’s.

With this in mind, we would like to invite you to attend an exam information evening on Thursday the 30th of September 2021, starting at 5:00pm.

The first part of the evening will be a 20-minute presentation with the Headteacher, Mr Woollard and myself. This will begin at 5pm in the main hall. This will be a chance for us to share some general information on how we are supporting students within school. Whilst also providing an opportunity for you to gain further advice and ideas on how you can support your child at home between now and their GCSE’s.

The second part of the evening will be delivered from each Head of Curriculum area for all subjects taught in Y11. This will be a chance for parents to gain an insight into what each specific subject area is doing to support students and how you can support your child at home.

These sessions will cover the following areas.

  • What will the students need to know for the exam in each subject.
  • Effective questioning techniques and revision strategies.
  • How to use time effectively to revise.
  • What help and resources are available to support your child.
  • How you can support your child.
  • An overview of how each subject is assessed in their exam.

At the end of the evening revision guides recommended for each subject will be available to purchase. During this time also feel free to ask any questions that may not have been answered during the 10 minute presentations with specific curriculum areas. This could be about revision strategies, intervention within school, Individual needs and revision resources.

I would strongly recommend that all parents and students join us on this evening, as this is an extremely important information evening which should not be missed. We look forward to seeing you at the event so that we can continue to work together to support your child in their GCSE’s.

Mr Riley
