Dear Parents and Carers,

I would like to thank you for attending Parents’ Evening. It was a very positive experience and an important opportunity to build strong communication between home and school. Working together is vital in supporting your child’s progress, and we greatly value these conversations. If you were unable to attend and have asked for feedback, but not received it or would like feedback, please let us know so we can follow this up with teaching staff.

Over the remaining eight weeks of Year 7, I will be contacting families to share positive news, particularly as Year 7 have now achieved over 20,000 achievement points, as well as to discuss any concerns or issues that we can work through together on an individual basis. These conversations are important as we support students in preparing for Year 8 and, further ahead, GCSE options. As a school, we continue to learn more about our students’ SEND experiences. We are committed to offering reasonable adjustments where needed so that all students can access their learning, make progress, and feel supported. Again, this communication is important to ensure that no student leaves Frederick Gent School without opportunities as it will create a life long well-being and confidence for the world after us.

Behaviour continues to be a key focus. Students who maintain fewer than 20 behaviour points (B points) will have the opportunity to attend Year 8 Camp next year, and we encourage all students to work positively towards this. From now until the end of Year 7, students must continue to improve their social interaction, reduce immaturity, and respond appropriately to consequences for poor behaviour. This means not walking away from learning, improving concentration, and not talking over the teacher, so that all students have the right to learn in a calm environment. I would also like to highlight that, as teachers, we are required to follow the rules and policies set out by our school employer and Trust. All relevant information and policies can be found on our school website. This approach is vital to ensure consistency, clarity, and fairness, removing any grey areas and ensuring that students experience consistent outcomes.

Please note that squishies/scrunchems are not to be brought into school. Where appropriate, quiet and discreet fidget aids may be used only if agreed and listed on a student’s School Passport, (based on evidenced need) and they should remain discreetly in pockets so that they do not distract from learning.

Attendance remains essential. With 49 school days remaining in Year 7, everyday matters and will make a real difference to students’ overall outcomes.

As we approach the end of the half term, students will break up on Thursday 22nd May and return on Monday 1st June. We are also looking forward to upcoming events, including the Summer Festival on Thursday 18th June 2026 and Sports Day in the penultimate week, which will take place before we break up for summer on Friday 17th July 2026.

Thank you for your continued support. By working together, we can ensure a strong and successful end to Year 7 for all students. Finally, I would like to reassure you that Mrs Thelwell and I will continue with the cohort through to Year 11. Our shared ambition is for every student to achieve their very best within a supportive, cooperative, and respectful environment. We want students to know that we are their biggest advocates in school, committed to supporting them in their efforts to succeed.

Thank you for your continued support.
