Curriculum Intent

We promote computing as a positive experience and subject to be enjoyed. Through the delivery of a comprehensive curriculum, we develop resilience, perseverance, problem solving and creativity which equip students with the fundamental computing knowledge to succeed in everyday life.

Through the delivery of the core knowledge of Computer Science, the students will develop practical and creative skills ensuring they become well-rounded computer scientists whilst discovering their talents as programmers. Combined this will enable them to be successful at KS3, KS4 and beyond.

In Years 7 and 8, students are introduced to a wide variety of software types and are taught the principles of information and computation; how digital systems work and how to put this knowledge to use through programming.

Working at home tasks are set regularly and consolidate work undertaken in class.

Note: The topic order is subject to change in relation to the needs of the students.

In Key Stage 4, our progressive curriculum ensures that pupils become digitally literate – able to use and express themselves and develop their ideas through Information Technology at a level suitable for the future workplace and as active participants in a digital world.

All students in Years 9, 10 and 11 have allocated Computing sessions to develop and deepen their knowledge and understanding.

In addition, we offer two qualifications: GCSE Computing and Cambridge National – Creative IMedia Level 1/Level 2.
